Preschool

“Let the little children come to me…”

We offer the finest early childhood Christian preschool education to meet the needs of our young children. Within our nurturing community, we help our students develop a solid foundation in Christ that will last a lifetime.

The focus of our program is exposure to developmentally appropriate learning activities and social skills that will develop our children’s awareness of the world around them and help them progress toward their entrance into school. As we show children Jesus, we help students hide God’s Word into their hearts through Scripture memory, and students are guided to learn moral and spiritual principles.

What We Learn Throughout the Year

We offer the finest early childhood Christian preschool education to meet the needs of our young children. Within our nurturing community, we help our students develop a solid foundation in Christ that will last a lifetime.

Above all else, we want our preschool students to gain a love for learning. In the years before children attend kindergarten, they’re naturally curious and open to engaging with the world around them. This makes these years the perfect time to nurture a love for learning. At Billings Christian School, 3- to 5-year-olds build social, emotional, academic, and spiritual foundations in our play-based early childhood programs. Children learn through active play and gain the skills needed for success in kindergarten and beyond.

3-Year-Old Preschool Class

Schedule / Class Options: 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

  • Tuesday & Thursday Class
  • Monday, Wednesday, & Friday Class
  • Monday - Friday Class

Structure of Class:
First our littlest students spend time in open play where they get a chance to play and use their imaginations. Afterwards, we have directed work time where we actively develop the skill to sit at the table for extended periods of time learning. Students also participate in "carpet time" where they learn to sit without hurting or touching other friends. We read many stories and do science experiments once a week.

Our Classroom Focus:
Academically, we focus on letter introduction, and number introduction to 10. Students work on counting to 30 through the year, and most students can count to 30 by the end of the year without help. We work with them on writing their names, along with using scissors and glue correctly without guidance.

Socially, we work on sharing and being kind, as well as keeping our hands to ourselves. Spiritually, we learn Bible stories while memorizing verses weekly. We learn to pray out loud and pray for each other. We also practice being empathetic towards others.

What We Hope Students Learn Each Year:
If our preschoolers learn nothing else, I want them to know that God loves them and God is with them wherever they go. Most are able to recall Bible stories they've learned throughout the year, and many know how to write their names and use scissors. We ensure that our students are ready for the next class, which means they can sit, follow directions, line up and gather their backpacks at the end of the day.

4/5-year-old class

Schedule: 8:30 am - 12:00 pm Monday - Friday

Structure of our Class:
Our 4-Year-Old class is a standard Pre-K class preparing each student for kindergarten. Whether they go on to Kindergarten Readiness at BCS or Kindergarten, they will be ready. We use Bible-based curriculum to weave together a beautiful plan that incorporates academic standards, character building, and hands-on learning. We begin our day with a morning meeting where we pray and do our calendar work. We have Bible time for learning our memory verse and exploring the Bible story we are learning. We utilize whole group and small group teaching to engage students with the content we are learning. We incorporate movement into our learning as often as we can, while preparing our students for the rigor of kindergarten. Pre-reading skills, handwriting, and math concepts are covered daily.

Our Classroom Focus:
Academically, we focus on letter recognition and sounds, number identification, basic math concepts (patterns, comparison, number order, grouping), the scientific process of making a prediction and testing to see what happens, pre-reading skills, and story/print awareness. We usually accomplish this through themed-study, such as harvest time, farm animals, seasons, human body, etc.

Socially, we strive to enhance a child's ability to share, cooperate, be a member of a group, and wait their turn, while helping them develop independence and personal responsibility.

Spiritually, we get the privilege of building the foundation of a child's faith. We focus on Bible stories to help children understand how loving, kind, and awesome our God is. We read stories, do activities related to the stories, and even act the stories out to commit these stories to memory. We memorize scripture each week to hide God's Word in our hearts.

What We Hope Students Learn Each Year:
By the end of the year, students should be able to write their name, identify uppercase and lowercase letters, count without error from 1-20, identify numbers 1-20 in isolation, understand the basics of how to use a book, listen to a story and talk about what they read, know with confidence that God loves them and they can trust Him, how to be a part of a group and how to conduct themselves within a classroom environment.

Kindergarten Readiness class

Schedule: 8:30 am - 12:00 pm Monday - Friday

Structure of Class:
Our Kindergarten Readiness class follows the structure of the ABEKA curriculum, which is Bible-based in all subject areas. Our goal is to not only prepare students for kindergarten, but help them begin basic reading, writing, and math.

Our day includes: calendar, weather, Pledge to America, the Christian flag, and the Bible (Bible verses, Bible songs, and Bible stories). Academically, we review phonics with an emphasis on phonetic reading; writing with an emphasis on capital and lower case; and we round out math skills with number recognition, counting, sorting, sequencing, and writing. Language Development is our study of this wonderful world God made and all the interesting things in it. Music, Art, and Drama are also incorporated in our daily routine with the addition of movement, exploration, singing, and games.

Our Classroom Focus:
Academically, we desire to show our little learners that learning is fun, and they can do it!
Socially, we use lessons, games, and working together to teach students how to trust, support, and get along with their classmates and friends.
Spiritually, our students learn that God is Love and that He wants us to love Him and others to the best of our ability as a 4- or 5- year-old.

What We Hope Students Learn Each Year:
We primarily hope that students feel that learning is fun and that they can do it. Additionally, we want them to know that God is the creator of all things, and that He loves us and sent His only son so that we can have a growing relationship with Him forever.

Field Trips

Our students love field trips, and so do we! We look for activities in the community that we can pair with what we are learning in the classroom. Here are some of the fun places our preschoolers love to explore.

Monkey Around

While discussing the theme of “healthy bodies” and the necessity of exercise, the preschoolers love visiting Monkey Around for a fun-filled physical activity.

The Park

A popular field trip among our preschool crowd, visiting a local playground allows our students to expend energy, practice gross motor skills, and learn to take turns.

Pumpkin Patch

While our older preschoolers take a field trip to “Grandpa’s Farm,” our 3-year-old preschoolers get to enjoy a pumpkin patch that is thoughtfully and creatively set up by their teacher, Mrs. Brooke, at school specifically for them!
